To be an artist. In this age of rapidly changing accessible technology, the definition and methods of Art, of creation are excitingly changing. Traditional training along with the changing times supports my work to fly, creating new pallets from light, bits, bytes and vectors which I see as pure forms of light. The works and elements I create can be generated in analogue form, tactile and physical or remain as pure light on a device. My primary works are abstractions which give me unrestrained freedom. This freedom is itself a political statement that so many of my predecessors dealt with, including Alma Thomas and Sam Gilliam of the DC Color School.
Born and raised in Newark NJ during the development of the civil rights struggle and Black Arts movement. I grew up in the heat of open rebellion against oppression with the growth of diasporic consciousness of a people. Before finding home I explored life across America’s eastern seaboard, and interior with brief excursions beyond my nation’s borders. I’m fortunate now to be a proud resident of the District of Columbia’s Seventh Ward, East of the Anacostia! This space affords me access to a vibrant Arts community of individuals encompassing divergent racial, ethnic, economic, and creative modalities. Here in DC and digitally across the world of light, there are so many possibilities and opportunities to artistically and culturally affect, and be affected by the rest of the world.
